Concussions in Small Children
April 2019
Concussions are not limited to adults. Small children and babies can suffer from concussions as well. A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. A concussion can occur after an injury that causes a person's head to shake violently back and forth.
A concussion is more difficult to diagnose in a baby or small child that is unable to speak or has limited ability to communicate. A small child will not exhibit the walking difficulties or slurred speech that are common symptoms of a concussion. A few of the signs to look for in a young child are drainage from the ears or nose, vomiting, drowsiness, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to sound and irritability.
If you suspect a concussion in a baby or small child, have them checked out by a healthcare professional. If the injury was caused due to the fault of another, you should take the time to seek experienced legal advice. Herrick & Hart has been assisting the injured since 1951.
