A lawsuit is a court action between two or more persons or entities. A lawsuit begins with a summons and complaint. These are legal documents that are drafted by an attorney. The decision to begin a lawsuit is an important decision and should only be decided after consultation with an experienced attorney. Typically, before a lawsuit is started there are attempts made to resolve a dispute. In some cases, the efforts to resolve a dispute prior to a lawsuit are successful. On the other hand, in many cases the attempt to resolve the dispute is unsuccessful and a decision is made to commence a lawsuit.
There are many reasons a person may decide to start a lawsuit. One reason is that the opposing party is not responsive. In other cases, the opposing party will not admit or come to terms with facts that point toward their responsibility. In still other cases, the opposing party does not place a fair value on the damages involved in the case.
