Parents Put the Brakes on Teen Driving
July 2016
A recent report of the University of Michigan's, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital indicated that 86% of parents have restrictions that their teens are to not drive and talk on the phone at the same time. Instead, the teen is expected to put the car in park before using a cell phone. The same report stated that 73% of parents forbid texting and driving.
At Herrick & Hart, we see everyday the dangers that teen driver's pose on the roads. Under Wisconsin Law, a parent can be held liable for a teen driver under the sponsorship statute. The distractions on the road to a teen of today are greater than what they were in the past. In the past, the teen may have only been distracted by a radio or a friend. However, the modern teen is confronted with phones and texting devices that are easily used in a moving car.
If you have been injured by a teen driver, you should take time to seek experienced legal representation. At Herrick & Hart, we have been representing the injured for over 60 years. You should take time when you pick a lawyer to make an informed choice. You should not simply turn to the loudest or most repetitive ads.
